(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- President Biden’s Transportation Secretary has been in the Chicago area to highlight federal infrastructure assistance, and one of his stops was Joliet on Wednesday.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg was in the Will County seat to attend a ribbon-cutting for the new Joliet Gateway Center bus station. The facility will not only be a hub for Pace buses, but also connects commuters to Metra and even Amtrak rail service.

Buttigieg noted the federally funded facility is in an underserved area. People’s ease and ability to get to work should not depend on their income, he said.

Gov. JB Pritzker and Congressman Bill Foster joined Buttigieg and the others for the ribbon-cutting.
