BRADLEY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The name of the Bradley police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty Wednesday night along with another officer who was wounded, has been released.
There’s going to be a procession Thursday afternoon as the body of Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic will be taken from the Kankankee County Coroner’s Mitchell Forensic Center to a funeral home in Bourbonnais. Bradley police said Rittmanic and another officer were shot as they were having a conversation last night with a guest at the Comfort Inn in Bradley.
The officers had responded to a call about a dog who had been left in an unattended vehicle. When the officers went to the room of the person whose vehicle it was, they were attacked and shot.
Lt. Philip Trudeau said the sergeant’s partner has been transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and was last reported in critical condition.
Rittmanic was 49 years old and leaves behind her wife Lynettee Stua. Police have an arrest warrant out for 25-year old Darius Sullivan in the shooting.
Police are also asking the public if they have any information about Sullivan's whereabouts to call 911 or Crime Stoppers. A second person of interest is also being sought.
