
(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two men died this morning after jumping into a river while attempting to get away from police following a pursuit that started with the carjacking of a Rolls Royce on Chicago’s Near North side.
The Rolls Royce was taken in an armed carjacking on the Near North Side sometime after 4:00 a.m.
It was spotted by police and there was a pursuit involving the Chicago Police Department and state troopers that went south on the Bishop Ford Freeway.
State police said there were five armed men involved and some had rifles.
They ditched the Rolls near 173rd Street and Torrence Avenue in Lansing, and got into an Infinity that was chased to 127th Street and Indiana Avenue, back in Chicago, where the Infinity crashed.
Three men were arrested. Two jumped into the Little Calumet River and police said they were initially unaccounted for.
The Chicago Police Marine Unit found them both and State Police say they were pulled from the water with Life-threatening injuries.
Both were pronounced dead.
