CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two people were hurt following a fire at a South Side high-rise apartment building.

Crews responded early Sunday evening to a fire on the fifth floor of the 25-story Lawless Gardens apartment complex, located at 36th and Rhodes, the fire department said.

Firefighters were able to contain it to a single unit and put it out rather quickly. Adjacent units did sustain smoke and water damage.

Two people were transported to an area hospital with minor smoke inhalation.

The CFD requested human services to assist the building’s residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The building did not have a sprinkler system, the CFD said.
