(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two east central Illinois men have been charged in the Jan. 6 breach of the US Capitol.

Fifty-three-year-old Douglas Wangler and Bruce Harrison,58, are due to appear in a federal court in Washington next week.

The two men from the Danville area face charges of entering a restricted building and disorderly conduct.

Unsealed court documents say the men came into the Capitol through an open door next to broken windows, the Chicago Tribune reports. Several pictures allegedly show them posing near statues in the Capitol Crypt.

In an FBI interview, Wangler reportedly said he asked a police officer if they would get in trouble for being inside. The Tribune quotes Harrison as telling agents they were caught up in the moment and left after about 15 minutes.

A friend reportedly told agents Wangler had said, “If walking around and singing some patriotic songs is a crime then I guess I am guilty.”

Wangler and Harrison are among at least eight Illinois residents facing federal charges related to the Jan. 6 attack.
