(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The DuPage County clerk is crediting increased access for raising voter turnout in municipal elections three weeks ago.
Clerk Jean Kaczmarek says DuPage bested the other collar counties in turnout, with 20.3% of registered voters casting a ballot in the April 4 elections.
That not only beat her county's recent high of 18.9% a decade ago, it was higher than Kane, Will, suburban Cook, Lake and McHenry counties.
Kaczmarek says she wanted residents to have several voting opportunities, so her office promoted mail-in ballots, doubled early voting locations and became the only county to allow voting anywhere within the county on Election Day.
“I wanted citizens to be tripping over voting opportunities,” Kaczmarek said in a prepared statement.
