CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A new study says artificial intelligence can be a powerful weapon in the fight against breast cancer.

The trial of 80,000  women in Sweden found that artificial intelligence analysis of mammograms detected 20% more cases of breast cancer compared to a standard reading from two radiologists.

Matt Wren, founder and tech Expert at VRAR Chicago tells the Noon Business Hour that the AI looks for certain patterns.

“You can train these algorithms against millions and millions of images in a very short time frame…They can basically be trained to detect little anomalies within a pattern that essentially indicate cancers,” Wren says.

He says the study is just one of many evaluating the uses of AI in medicine.

“There’s a lot of ways that AI can be applied and, I’m sure, is being applied today. There’s frankly so many studies right now, it’s almost hard to keep up with them,” says Wren.
