(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — While many couples have had to postpone their weddings due to COVID-19, things are looking up.
The Cook County Health Department announced Friday that people who are fully vaccinated are exempt from capacity limits for private social events like weddings.
That’s good news to Jennifer Ramasami. She her fiance postponed their wedding in Elk Grove Village twice during the pandemic.
“What was heartbreaking for us was having to tell family and friends: ‘I know you bought tickets, I know you made plans, I know you took time off, but clearly it’s just not going to happen this year.’”
Now, they’re looking forward to celebrating with roughly 150 guests this September.
“It gives us so much relief, because the biggest goal we’ve had is to celebrate with family and friends and I’m just so glad that seems like more of a reality now,” Ramasami said.
Nicole Abrahamson planned to get married in River North last year. She told WBBM Newsradio in a year of uncertainty, her big day finally feels like a reality.
“It’s something I can actually grasp onto and start looking forward to,” she said.
For those who aren’t vaccinated, Cook County set a 50% capacity limit for indoor events or a maximum of 50 individuals, and 100 individuals for outdoor settings.
People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second dose in a two-dose series or two weeks after receiving a single-dose vaccine.
