CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago’s Chief Marketing Officer says the City is in the best position to win the bidding to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

Chicago launched its bid for the Democratic National Convention with a flashy video, but the real work lies ahead.

Michael Fassnacht, CEO of World Business Chicago, said business and civic leaders from all over the city are ready to pitch in to make this happen. He said Chicago is clearly the best place to highlight where the Democratic Party and the nation are going.

"I think Chicago is the perfect intersection of all the great things that are happening in this country-the diverse talent, an urban center, the amenities, the energy, the business recovery we have (from the pandemic). Chicago is the perfect place," he said.

He said-like the slogan for the City’s DNC bid--this is where the future is being built.

But what does he say to Chicagoans who think everyday life will be disrupted if the Democratic convention comes here in two years?

Fassnacht said there will be many benefits to Chicago from the convention, from business and hospitality to tourism. He also said there may be lasting improvements made to the venues where convention activity may take place.

"I think Chicagoans are proud of their city."

Last month the Democratic National Committee sent letters to eight cities, including Chicago, Houston and Atlanta, soliciting proposals for holding the convention.

Fassnacht argues the city is the clearest choice for the DNC.
