(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in the western suburb of Wheaton are rolling out new technology ahead of schedule.
By early April, all 67 officers of the Wheaton Police Department will be wearing body cameras, two years ahead of a state deadline for all police agencies to use the equipment and store digital video for a set time period.
Wheaton police officials say they prefer to start early and get familiar with the technology. The department will use the AXON model.
