CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — White Sox fans went to the game Saturday night still confused after a shooting left two women wounded the night before.
On Saturday, Chicago police were searching an empty lot near 42nd Street and Princeton Avenue for shell casings.
As first reported by CWB Chicago, Shot Spotter detected gunshots there Friday night, which is about one mile from Guaranteed Rate Field. Meanwhile, CBS 2 spoke to a fan as more police and K9 units were patrolling around the ballpark.
“I feel like there is a little more security, and I saw the dog and everything,” the fan said. “I’m feeling pretty safe.”
The woman told CBS 2 that while she was “saddened” by the shooting, she also knew that “it can happen anywhere.”
Many fans were upset that the game continued even after a 42-year-old woman, who was sitting in the left field bleachers, was struck by a bullet in the leg. A 26-year-old woman was grazed in the stomach.
The 42-year-old was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition. The 26-year-old refused medical attention at the scene.
A post-game concert was canceled. The White Sox said that cancellation was meant to allow police access to the space to investigate.
