WNDR Museum, Chicago’s original immersive art and technology experience, announced the return of two fan favorites and the debut of one all-new installation.
Everbright and Try To Get Higher are set to return with bigger and better interactive light exhibits alongside a reimagined, immersive video installation ANTIBODIES.
“At WNDR Museum, we want to continue pushing the boundaries of what typical museum exhibitions look like,” said WNDR Museum spokesperson Jason Rubacky, in a statement. “Combining the best of visual art, technology and creativity, these artists provide insight into our daily lives in a way that’s engaging, disruptive and poignant.”
ANTIBODIES, 2021
ANTIBODIES by Studio Iregular is an interactive experience in the form of a never-ending video call that was born during quarantine from the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to replace a physical exhibition. The concept of replacing social gatherings with video calls seemed to perfectly echo replacing the physical art installation with a virtual one.
This is how ANTIBODIES was born: an online interactive artwork that can be accessed by anyone at any time. A two-part experience, the exhibit takes the form of a never-ending video conference call. In Part 1, viewers are confronted with their own image filmed by their webcam, while a software tracks facial gestures and responds with overlaid patterns. Part 2 takes the viewer to the “conference room” where they witness the recordings of all others who participated in the experience, themselves included.
This virtual get-together within ANTIBODIES highlights the main difference between real-life gatherings and virtual ones: in real life we only see others around us, never ourselves, whereas in this “new normal” scenario we are also in the crowd we perceive; we see how others see us.
Everbright, 2021
Everbright is an interactive artwork designed to inspire playfulness and creativity. The exhibit is a modern reimagining of the giant light bright that reacts instantly as visitors turn each dial, changing the hue of each individual LED light. Creating a new work of art with each turn of a dial, Everbright invites visitors to reconnect with their creativity and play with more than 400 LED lights and 162 possible hues.
Try To Get Higher, 2021
Updated for 2021, WNDR favorite Try To Get Higher by Andy Arkley is an interactive installation designed with wood sculpture, video projection, and music. The exhibit is controlled by 16 lit arcade buttons that direct synchronized music and animation sequences in any fashion the visitor chooses, creating a unique experience for each artist.
WNDR Museum was recently voted one of the top five immersive art experience in the country by USA Today’s 2021 Reader Poll.
Located in the West Loop, the 10,000 square-foot museum is filled with interactive artworks by cutting edge artists, collectives, technologists, designers and makers. WNDR disrupts and redefines the traditional museum experience. As guests travel through the WNDR Museum, they are taken on a multi-dimensional journey in which they serve as an extension of each creator by interacting with various installations. More than 20 installations awaken guests’ senses throughout WNDR’s mind-blowing experiences.
