Woman carjacked in River North while pumping gas: CPD

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Shots were fired during a carjacking that happened Tuesday evening at a gas station in the River North neighborhood.

According to police, the carjacking happened as a 34-year old woman was filling her gas tank at LaSalle and Ontario at around 6:45 p.m. A carjacker jumped into the open driver’s side door of the car and drove off, ripping the hose off the gas pump and cutting the victim in the knee.

The security guard at the gas station began shooting at the car thief but did not hit anyone. The guard has a valid FOID card. The car was later found on 66th and Champlain in the Woodlawn neighborhood.

No one is in custody.
