Wrong-way crash leaves 2 dead in Lake County

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Two men are dead after a wrong-way crash in Lake County early Monday.

It happened just after 4 a.m. on northbound Route 41 near Stearns School Road in unincorporated Gurnee.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, a 32-year-old man from Grayslake was speeding and driving the wrong way in a Nissan Altima when he crashed head-on into a Ford Edge driven by a 54-year-old man from North Chicago.

The Nissan caught fire, and the driver died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford suffered critical injuries and died after being transported to a hospital, officials said.

An investigation continues.
