WAUKEGAN (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Waukegan teenager remains shaky in his feelings about police a month after two officers allegedly pressed him into confessing to a crime he did not commit.
Waukegan police arrested 15-year old Martell Williams in school, suspecting him of carrying out a shooting at a dollar store. He was allegedly coaxed into confessing to the crime, even though, as it turns out, he was out-of-town playing basketball at the time. He was freed a couple of days later.
Now, according to CBS 2, he and his family want change in the police department, as the two officers involved still have their jobs.
“It makes me not trust (the) police a lot more,” Williams told CBS 2. “It makes me wonder what could have happened to me,” added Williams.
The city of Waukegan hired an outside security firm to investigate. Waukegan police also said it will not interrogate minors without a parent or guardian present and won’t arrest children at school unless a crime is committed at the school.
