Last week a West Virginia woman awoke from a two-year coma and identified her brother as her attacker. According to officials, the woman’s brother, who was charged, has now died.

On July 15, Daniel Palmer, 55, was booked into South Central Regional Jail in Charleston. He was charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding for the attack on his sister that took place June 10, 2020.

His sister Wanda Palmer has slowly begun regaining her consciousness, and once she was able to communicate, she identified her brother as the attacker that left her for dead two years prior.

However, when police arrested Palmer, he was reportedly “uncooperative” after being placed in custody, and while being booked, the West Virginia Department of Homeland Security told NBC News.

Palmer was evaluated by jail medical staff on Wednesday and then transferred to the Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital, according to officials. On Thursday, he was pronounced dead.

No information has been shared on his death, other than suicide had been ruled out as a cause of death, officials shared.

Palmer had denied any involvement in the attack on his sister, and during his first court appearance last Friday, he was dragged out of the courthouse by deputies.

Investigators shared even before he was identified by Wanda Palmer that he had always been a suspect in the case but that there was never enough evidence to bring charges.
