A tornado in Salado, Texas, injured at least 23 people in Bell County Tuesday. About half of them needed to go to the hospital and one of those is reported to be in critical condition.
In addition to hurting nearly two dozen, the Salado twister flattened buildings, downed power lines and uprooted trees. At the same time, two potential tornadoes were also reported Tuesday night in Williamson County.
It's possible Salado, which is located around 50 miles northeast of Austin, may have been hit by one of the Williamson County tornadoes. That will be determined by the National Weather Service in the next day or two.
One of the tornadoes was close to crossing I-35 so the Williamson County deputies closed the interstate until the danger passed.
In 1997, nearby Jarrell was devastated by a catastrophic F-5 tornado. Last night's tornadoes were not nearly that big.
The extent of damage will become more clear today.
