It's the most wonderful time of the year, but which U.S. cities have the most Christmas spirit?
The holidays are a cherished season for many, whether it’s decorating the tree, stocking the fridge with festive favorites, or sitting back with a cup of hot cocoa as you watch the snow fall.
That being said, some US cities are definitely more "Christmassy" than others.
To figure out which cities are the most festive, online casino and sportsbook Betway created the Christmas Spirit Index, ranking US cities based on a variety of festive factors such as the likelihood of a White Christmas, the average time locals hang their Christmas lights, the total number of festive Google searches, and the number of times people post about their Christmas activities.
Once the factors were collected, they were normalized to provide a factor score between 0-1. The normalized values were combined to give each city a score out of 5, and then ranked.
The Shining Star at the top of the Christmas Spirit Index is New York City with an index score of 2.80.
Salt Lake City took the silver medal in terms of festive spirit with an index score of 2.08.
Following closely behind is Chicago which ranked third overall with an index score of 1.93.
Rounding out the top five is Pittsburgh with an index score of 1.89, and New Orleans with a score of 1.80.
