Former President Donald Trump spoke before his supporters on Saturday in Waco, Texas, declaring that he would be elected president in 2024 and that those who wronged his supporters would be held responsible.
“When this election is over, I will be the president of the United States,” Trump said at the rally. “You will be vindicated and proud, and the thugs and criminals who are corrupting our justice system will be defeated, discredited, and totally disgraced.”
Trump entered his first major campaign rally while the “Justice for All” video played. The video was made by a choir of men who were incarcerated for their role in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. In the video, the choir sings the national anthem while Trump recites the Pledge of Allegiance and photos of the riot are shown.
Trump discussed his plans for another presidential term, proclaiming to his supporters that he would defend them and those who have been “wronged” once reelected.
“I am your warrior. I am your justice. And I took a lot of heat for this one, but I only mean it in the proper way — for those who have been wronged and betrayed … I am your retribution,” Trump said.
Of those who he alleged of doing wrong by him and his supporters was the Supreme Court. Trump said that “the Supreme Court didn’t have the courage to right the wrong” done to him during the 2020 election.
Trump’s stop in Waco comes a week after he took to social media announcing that the New York City District Attorney’s Office was going to indict and arrest him last week. In his post on Truth Social, Trump called for his supporters to protest his alleged upcoming arrest.
However, last week the district attorney’s office did not move forward with any plans to arrest Trump, something he boasted about during his speech, as he accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of “prosecutorial misconduct.”
Trump continued during his speech by saying that he was going to take down the “deep state,” a sentiment that seemed to headline his speech in Waco near the 30th anniversary of the federal siege of anti-government cult leader David Koresh’s compound.
“Either the deep state destroys America or we destroy the deep state,” Trump said.
The former president also returned to what seems to be his favorite recurring topic: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
“Florida has been tremendously successful for many years, long before this guy became governor,” Trump said. “Florida has been successful for decades.”
Trump has continued to bash and make comments about DeSantis, who many feel could rival the former president for the Republican nomination, despite him not yet announcing whether or not he will run.
The decision to put off his potential campaign announcement has not stayed Trump’s hand, as he continues to try and discredit his once-seeming ally. After the rally, while speaking with reporters, NBC News reported that Trump said DeSantis has “no personality. That tends to be bad for a politician.”
