Last Thursday, 30-year-old Mia Rhodes was shot dead in the driver’s seat of her car in a Fort Worth intersection. According to police reports cited by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, she was murdered by Bryce Long, 20, the cousin of her ex-boyfriend.

Earlier this year, Rhodes was charged along with two others – Quincey Parker, 46, and Kevin Kirven, 36 – in the death of that boyfriend, identified by the Star-Telegram as 24-year-old Jordan Harris, who was allegedly beaten with a bat and had his neck squeezed.

He had been accused of assaulting and stalking Rhodes last year, said the outlet. Although a grand jury did not indict him in the stalking case, Harris served 45 days in jail for assault and violating an order of protection, per records cited by the Star-Telegram. He was released from jail in August.

Rhodes was out on bond when she was driving near the intersection of Meadowbrook Drive and the East Loop 820 service road. As Long shot at the car, a laser pointer fell off the 9mm Glock he was using, said an affidavit for his arrest.

There is an obituary notice on the Golden Gate Funeral Home website for a person named Mia Rhodes. It had one message as of Friday.

“She was definitely a real one. True solider. A rider. Very intelligent. If only my love could have saved her,” said the message.

Long confessed to opening fire on Rhodes the day after the shooting according to the police affidavit for his arrest for murder. He was found inside a home police linked to a Kia Optima that could be seen driving behind her vehicle on surveillance footage around the time of the shooting.

During an interview with police, Long said he knew that Rhodes had killed his cousin, according to records cited by the Star-Telegram. Long also told police he drove off after the shooting.

As he shot at Rhodes, he also struck a woman in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. That woman is expected to survive.
