(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Chicago Bears are expected to provide details next Thursday about their potential plan to build a new stadium and more in Arlington Heights.

In 2021, the Bears signed a purchase agreement for the Arlington International Racecourse property, and they've since been exploring the idea of building a new state-of-the-art stadium on it.

Next Thursday, the team will hold an informational community meeting at Hersey High School in the northwest suburb. The public is welcome.

The stadium would be an anchor for a larger, mixed-use redevelopment, Bears officials said, one of the largest projects in the history of the state.

The Bears currently play at Soldier Field, which they lease from the city of Chicago. The facility is considered increasingly obsolete. City officials have proposed a broad-based set of improvements to that lakefront site, but the Bears don't appear interested.
