(AUDACY) The Cubs will face the division rival Cincinnati Reds in the "Field of Dreams" game in 2022, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reported Monday evening.
The "Field of Dreams" event in Dyersville, Iowa had a highly successful debut last Thursday, when the White Sox defeated the Yankees in a wild 9-8 game. Cubs manager David Ross had recently indicated his team would play in the game in 2022, but the opponent wasn't known.
The game will take place on Aug. 11, 2022 on a Thursday evening to start a three-game series between the teams. After a rest day Friday, the series will conclude in Cincinnati on Saturday and Sunday. There are still a few legal details to be figured out, NBC Sports Chicago reported, and the tentative 2022 schedules for both teams currently show Aug, 11 as an off day, though that's set to be adjusted.
After Ross accidentally let on that the Cubs would be one of the teams partaking in the 2022 iteration of the game, it was mentioned that the Cardinals were interested and hopeful that they would be the other team selected after they were the victims of a COVID-19 postponement in 2020.
Here's to hoping that the Cubs-Reds matchup is as entertaining as the White Sox's victory against the Yankees was.
