(AUDACY) Perhaps the only people happier than Tim Anderson and the Chicago White Sox with how the first "Field of Dreams" game turned out are the executives at Fox Sports.

The White Sox's thrilling 9-8 win against the Yankees on Thursday night in the made-for-television event in Dyersville, Iowa was the highest-rated MLB regular-season game since the 2005 season, according to Fox Sports executive vice president Michael Mulvihill. More than 5.9 million viewers watched across Fox and Fox Deportes. Anderson hit a two-run walk-off homer to win the game after the Yankees had rallied to take the lead with four runs in the top of the ninth.

Earlier in the day, Mulvihill added that the overnight rating on the walk-off victory by the White Sox was up +135% when compared to the average MLB telecast on Fox Sports.

In the aftermath of the smashing success of this game, many have suggested that baseball play games paying homage to the 1993 film "The Sandlot" or the late-1990s, early-2000s video game "Backyard Baseball." MLB plans to hold a "Field of Dreams" game in 2022. The teams that will participate haven't been officially announced, though Cubs manager David Ross suggested recently that his organization will be in it.
