The New York Giants have hired Buffalo Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen as their next general manager, the team announced on Friday.

Schoen was hired by Bills general manager Brandon Beane to be the team's assistant general manager shortly after he took over in 2017, and has remained in the same role with the Bills for the past five seasons. Schoen had been the director of player personnel for the Miami Dolphins from 2014 to 2017.

The Giants also have an opening at head coach, and it's possible Schoen could hire either Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll or defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier to join him in New York.

For Beane, there are several quality in-house candidates on his staff he could choose to replace Schoen as assistant general manager. This includes Senior Director of Pro Scouting Malik Boyd, Assistant Director of Player Personnel Terrance Gray, and Senior Personnel Advisor Brian Gaine, who previously served as general manager of the Houston Texans.
