(WBEN) - New polling from Siena Research shows a majority of New Yorkers think the recent influx of migrants to the state is a serious problem.

According to the poll, 82% of New Yorkers say the problem is serious, with 54% saying it is "very serious." By a 46-32% margin, voters say that migrants resettling in New York over the last 20 or so years has been a "burden," not a "benefit" to the state. And by 58-36%, voters say New Yorkers have already done enough and should now work to slow the flow.

The problem is considered serious to voters of every ethnicity. The poll shows 74% of Latino, 80% of Black, and 83% of White respondents say it is a "serious problem."

“New Yorkers, including huge majorities of Democrats, Republicans, independents, Upstaters and Downstaters, overwhelmingly say the recent influx of migrants to New York is a serious problem for the state,” said Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg in a statement. “Voters disapprove of the job that Hochul is doing to address the influx 51-35%."

Perhaps related, the poll shows Gov. Kathy Hochul with her lowest ever approval rating at 40%.
