BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Albright Knox Art Gallery celebrated a construction milestone with the topping off ceremony of its new Gundlach Building.

The final steel beam was placed atop the three-story building on Wednesday. The Jeffrey E. Gundlach Building will more than double the number of works the museum can display at any given time and add space for special exhibitions.

Once the project is complete in 2022, the museum will also an open-air sculpture garden, an education wing, a scenic bridge that connects the Gundlach Building with the Wilmers Building. There will also be underground parking at the museum.

"We are keeping our supply chain issues in mind," Janne Siren, Director at Albright Knox, said. "You never know in this complicated, interconnected world, when you are depending on a lot of producers in different parts of the world to deliver goods such as steel and glass at the right moment for everything to go according to the construction sequence."
