Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The American Postal Workers Union held an informational picket outside the Buffalo United States Postal Service (USPS) Processing and Distribution Center on Friday. The picket comes as a response to a proposal that will move Buffalo's postal operations to the Rochester location.
American Postal Workers Union President Frank Resetarits says this isn't the first time a proposal like this has been brought up. Resetarits says it's not too late to stop the proposal.
"That's why the public, here today, is voicing their displeasure with the delay in their mail. They can come to the public meeting, which will be this coming Tuesday at the Creekside banquet center in Cheektowaga on Union Road," sais Resetarits on Friday.
"They are required to meet with the public, and that's when this meeting will take place."
Fillmore District Councilman Mitch Nowakowski was also in attendance at the picket, and believes it's possible that many people will be out of a job if this proposal goes into effect.
"They were trying to slow walk in and say, 'Oh, it would only be a net loss of seven'. Every time you interact with them, it creeps a little higher," said Nowakowski on Friday. "Potentially, you could see everyone that works within here, about 800 people that work in this facility, if you start eliminating and moving this there, I think it's going to be a slow shift of all the jobs here at the at the processing center."
The American Postal Workers Union will will be hosting a public meeting at the Creekside Banquet Center in Cheektowaga on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. EST.
