It's a huge, huge game" Bills Play by Play man John Murphy on Sunday's monster matchup

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) "I was talking to my friend Vic Carucci who has covered the Buffalo Bills for decades, and asked him to name a regular season game that was as big as this one. He couldn't, especially this early in the season," said Bills radio Play by Play man John Murphy. "This one means a lot."

What's on the line, in the so-called rematch of the 2020 AFC Championship
Game at Arrowhead Stadium, is essentially home field advantage in the
playoffs. That means a lot said Murph, making this game big.

"There's still a long way to go after this game, and the loser is not out of it,
by any means," added Murph. But he called it, "a huge, huge game."

On the battle between the Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen, and Patrick Mahomes, Murph said he used to think that they are 2 of the best young quarterbacks in the game. He's come to realize that they are THE two best quarterbacks in the game

"Josh Allen has played at an MVP level through the first five games of the season. Patrick Mahomes is right there with him, plus he's been an NFL MVP. These two quarterbacks are essentially (Tom) Brady and (Peyton) Manning ten years ago." Murph said he's always worried that he's over-hyping a game, but he doesn't think he's doing it here. Adding, "These are the two best teams in the league and the two best quarterbacks in the league."

Moving on from 13 seconds

Bills fans know all too well about the final 13 seconds of the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead last January that cost the Bills a chance to get to the Super Bowl. Coach Sean McDermott said this week, "that's part of our past."

Murphy said he's sure that McDermott has addressed it with the team. But noted that it's the kind of thing that a coach doesn't need to remind his players of. "The guys who were here last year have been dealing with that for months. And it provides a great sub-text and I think that practically speaking, the Bills have drilled since last January, on how to handle end of game situations. I think it was on display in Baltimore."

The Bills have game management experts in and around the coaching staff. "You never know what you're going to encounter and it really sets the scene for this Sunday," added Murphy.

Sunday's game is at 4:25pm from Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
John Murphy will be calling the game on radio flagship WGR Sportsradio 550.
