BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) It's constant. A daily stream of visitors to public memorials outside of Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue.
One main memorial, in front of Tops, displays the names and photos of each of the victims killed in the mass shooting on May 14, along with dozens and dozens of bouquets of fresh flowers, candles, teddy bears and messages.
A second large memorial is a growing tribute around a tree for the "Buffalo 10" on Landon Street near Jefferson. It too, is filled with fresh flowers, candles and other mementos.
Caring for the two sites has become a job in itself.
No matter when you visit, the blooms are always healthy and vibrant.
There is never a wilted flower, or bouquet that is drooping.
"The community takes care of that," said Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown on WBEN Tuesday, exactly one month since the tragedy. "The community has shown incredible respect for the site. People from near and far continue to come to the site to grieve, pray and remember the Buffalo 10 who were lost in the mass shooting."
The mayor credits the community for doing a wonderful job in making sure that the site is neat.
"People look at it as hallowed ground and a sacred place. They have been very respectful, not only of the memorial sites, but of the area," he added.

Mayor Brown also indicated to WBEN that very soon, Governor Kathy Hochul will be joining him to announce a plan, that will involve families of the victims and the community, to develop an appropriate permanent memorial in the vicinity of the Tops store.
