BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) - Erie County this week is on pace to become a community with a high-risk of COVID-19 transmission, according to Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.

There were 140 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday and 906 total cases in the past week. Erie County has a total of 95 new cases per 100,000 residents over the past week.

Erie County is currently a community with a "substantial" risk of community transmission. High risk is defined as a community with at least 100 new cases per 100,000 residents.

"Based on the recent trendline, and if we continue on that trend, we expect Erie County to enter the CDC's 'high risk of community transmission' category during this work week," the county executive tweeted Monday afternoon.

61.9% of Erie County residents have had at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to state data. 73.1% of adults have been vaccinated.
