Buffalo, NY (WBEN) As Governor Kathy Hochul held a news conference on COVID, she says the newest variant is near New York. In fact, Hochul says the omicron variant is right across the border.
Hochul says she expected the variant to come to New York. "We have notification it has arrived in Ontario. I can see Canada from my house," says Hochul. "There's a bridge crossing that's going to bring our Canadian friends in, and they are required to be vaccinated to come here, so as we welcome our Canadian friends here we hope they don't bring along any visitors."
Meanwhile, Hochul says New Yorkers should be prepared for a holiday season Covid wave. “Mark my words we are going to see a surge in the next couple of days,” Hochul says.
Hochul also announced she will hold a press event Thursday to introduce Mary Bassett as the new State Health Commissioner.
