Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Tim Berry of Williamsville is on his way to hurricane ravaged areas with a truck and trailer full of supplies.
"It needed to be done," he told WBEN as he departed Wednesday morning.
Berry runs Erie County Blotter, a social media site that reports on police
and fire incidents around Erie County. His day job is driving a tractor trailer.
"There is a huge need for food, for supplies, dog and cat food. I have the availability, and a large capacity vehicle, so why not do it?" he said.
The supplies and monetary donations were gathered in a short amount of time from friends, neighbors and supporters of Erie County Blotter.
Berry and his friend Shawn McMahon are headed to Kingsport, Tennessee, which is about 45 minutes north of Ashville, North Carolina. He estimated that they are hauling between 5,000 and 8,000 pounds of supplies. It is all destined for the mountain communities, which remain cut off and under water.
"We've seen a lot of images of animals on roofs and no one trying to rescue them," Berry said. "It's sad to see. And who's more loyal than a family pet? Whether it's a dog, cat, a reptile or snake?"
Berry said he has between 1,500 and 2,000 pounds of pet food.
He is still accepting donations of Benadryl and EpiPens at his physical location at 200 Berkley Road in Williamsville.
