Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Characterizing it as the "Buffalo Transportation Transformation", U.S. Senator Charles Schumer was along the Buffalo River Monday morning announcing millions of dollars in transportation funding for the Buffalo waterfront.

"This is transformational for Buffalo," said Schumer in announcing the funding for the multifaceted developments. "This is big news for Buffalo and will revolutionize the waterfront, opening up economic potential and tapping into one of Western New York's greatest gems: Lake Erie." He says he's proud to deliver more than $10 million investment to lay the foundation for a greener future for the region.

Funding is included for the Riverline project which will connect the Buffalo River to Canalside in Buffalo. Schumer says the 1.5 mile project will reclaim one of Buffalo's treasures.

Riverwalk will also be funded through the project and offer more green space, walkability and a bike trail.

Nearly $7 million in funding is also included for new electric buses and zero emissions buses for the NFTA.
