Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed Move Over legislation into law on Tuesday, thereby expanding New York’s Slow Down/Move Over requirement.
The expansion includes disabled vehicles that are parked on the shoulder of a controlled access highway or parkway, requiring drivers to exercise caution when approaching a disabled vehicle.
Elizabeth Carey of AAA says it has long been considered common courtesy, but now it is a necessity.
"People do need to be protected when they check their cars for damage on the road," said Carey on Tuesday during an appearance on WBEN.
Carey adds there is no word on any changes to punishments for violating the law.
The law will officially take effect in six months.
