Buffalo, NY (WBEN) A pair of freezer breakdowns have led to a crisis for Niagara Gospel Mission. They need your help after $25,000 worth of frozen food spoiled.

"We have a freezer on site and we have a freezer off site, both of them happen to go down, and so the food that we use to feed our homeless individuals here, we've lost a significant amount," says Connor Lackey. "The one was a technical glitch, and it looks like we were able to get that fixed, and they're up and running again. We've gotten new monitors to be able to make sure that the temperature stays regulated in there, so that way, in the event that something happens again, hopefully we can recover anything that's down and make sure that this does not happen again." Lackey estimates the 10,000 pounds of food amounts to a loss of $25,000. He says raising that amount normally takes two to six months.

Lackey says the mission has launched a campaign. "We're trying to raise $25,000 but also we've called on local businesses, those who have small restaurants, and then also anybody who has any other connections, to bring in any sort of donations in kind," says Lackey. He says if you want to go to the grocery store buy frozen meats, chicken, beef, frozen vegetables, he'll accept them. You can contact Connor at 716-205-8805 or email him at clackey@niagaragrm.org.
