BUFFALO, N.Y. (WBEN) – Marijuana will take its next steps in New York on Tuesday with the first official meeting of the Office of Cannabis Management, the control board which will determine the regulations associated with marijuana and cannabis.
OCM consists of five board members: A chairperson nominated by the governor and approved by the legislature, two members appointed by the governor, one member appointed by the state senate majority leader, and one member appointed by the assembly speaker.
The board on Tuesday gave medical practitioners the ability to give patients or their caregivers a 60-day supply of medical cannabis. The $50 registration fee has also been permanently waived.
Regulations were not given for home cultivation in the medical program. Previously, the law required the board to have a six-month timeline to create the guidelines for home cultivation, but the board missed the deadline due to delays in the nominations and appointments.
The board also named Jason Starr as Chief Equity Officer and hired 21 people to serve as senior staffers for the Office of Cannabis Management.
