Albany, NY (WBEN) State Senator Rob Ortt says with Governor Cuomo facing two investigations from two separate agencies, the time has come for Cuomo to resign. Ortt notes the call is not political.
Cuomo is facing an independent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, as well as a federal probe into his handling of nursing home deaths from COVID.
Ortt says it's not political. "How can that person also do the job they've been elected to do in guiding us through the pandemic, guiding us through the fiscal and economic crisis we're facing. How can the needs of New Yorkers come before the needs of the administration as far as cooperating with these two investigations, which is why I'm calling on him to step aside," says Ortt. He adds if Cuomo were to resign, Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul would take over.
Ortt says the investigations will monopolize most of Cuomo's time. "This is not a political decision for me. It's not as though a Republican would fill the slot if Governor Cuomo resigned. This is about what is the right thing for New Yorkers," adds Ortt.
Ortt notes he is concerned about how effectively Cuomo could govern while also dealing with the probes.
