Buffalo, NY (WBEN) With temperatures soaring from teens Monday to 50 by Wednesday and Thursday, there is concern about flooding, especially in one West Seneca neighborhood that's dealt with flooding in years past.
Supervisor Gary Dickson said emergency responders are keeping tabs on potentially rising waters from nearby Buffalo Creek.
"They are in the process of renting sump pumps to make sure that there's no overflow," said Dickson. "We're in the process of ordering some extra pumps and installing them at the lift stations in storm chambers to make sure that there's no flooding through the sewer system. We're also keeping an eye on the on the Creek itself."
Ice jams usually present the biggest challenge.
"We work closely with Buffalo as well as with our engineers, it's a whole team effort, working with our fire departments or police departments, and our sewer departments," said Dickson.
The town installed a temporary berm a number of years ago.
"That berm is still in place, which has been pretty effective for the last couple times in keeping the the floodwaters out. We're in the process of talking with with National Fuel rather which has a high pressure gas line in behind many of the residents houses between them and the creek," said Dickson. "Basically the people have backyards that abut the creek. We plan to discuss that with the neighbors in a few weeks. Once we have we just got approval from national fuel to to to for the location of the berm so it's a been a problem for a while and we're trying to come up with a semi permanent solution to it."
