Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Reddy Bikeshare, partnered with Independent Health, launches their 2022 bike sharing season this week with an upgraded scan-to-unlock QR code technology on all of their 400 rentable bikes in the Buffalo and Niagara Falls area.

“It’s three easy steps,” says Chief Development Officer Mitch LaRosa for Shared Mobility, operators of Reddy Bikeshare. “Sign up for Reddy using The Social Bicycles app, use the app to scan and unlock the QR code in the back of the bike. Once you hear a beep, the bike is unlocked, hit the U-bar in the holster and you’re ready to ride.”
“As pioneers of healthy and active transportation in partnership with Independent Health, together we are continuing to serve our community with an innovative approach to accessibility,” said Nathan Schultz, Director of Operations for Reddy Bikeshare. “Accessing a bike will be easier than ever before - with a quick scan on your phone, you’ll be able to hop on a bike in seconds, and for folks without access to a phone, member RFID cards will remain available.”
Reddy Bikeshare and Independent Health are continuing to work with the City of Niagara Falls to offer $1 annual passes that will allow the resident to rent a bike for one cent per-minute.
In Buffalo, residents of the Fruit Belt community can redeem a free annual pass at one cent per-minute, supported by the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. This offer also extends to the employees of the BNMC, M&T Bank and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.
All other Western New Yorkers can receive a 50% discount on the annual pass extending to the end of April with the redeemable code: REDDY22. The annual passes without the code are $55 a year plus tax for a one cent per-minute fixed price. To redeem the code or for more information you can visit the website, reddybikeshare.com or download the application on your phone, Social Bicycles.
