Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - Buffalo's Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon came out on the losing side of Tuesday night's Mayoral Primary Election for the Democratic nomination on the ballot for the November general election.
Scanlon came up short to State Sen. Sean Ryan, who ended up earning nearly 3,000 more votes, a little more than 10% of the results across the city's nine districts.
"There's nothing that I would change as far as the effort and the time, and the message that they put out and the type of campaign we ran," said Scanlon following Tuesday night's primary election. "We ran a very clean, very positive campaign, and I'm extremely proud of that."
Although Scanlon has said he still intends to run for mayor on the Independent line come this November, he plans to take some time to reflect on what he could have done better during this run, while also spending time with his wife and kids.
"I know this, that no one outworked this team. No one outworked this campaign, and that's a result of people making sacrifices. That includes my wife in particular," Scanlon said.
While Scanlon will continue to serve as the Acting Mayor for the City of Buffalo, he is very proud of the work he has done to help the city over the last eight months he has served in office at City Hall.
"What I learned most, and love most about the last eight months of being mayor is I've said this repeatedly: The number of people that I got to meet that I haven't otherwise had the opportunity to, the number of organizations that we've been able to work with that we otherwise haven't had the opportunity to," Scanlon said. "I constantly talk about partnerships and working together, and I think that's when Buffalo is at its best, when we're all on the same page and pulling in the same direction. So just meeting new people, pulling together different organizations to try and make Buffalo the best version of itself is what I've loved most about it."
