Threatening graffiti spotted near Clarence High School

An increased police presence around the school will be on-hand for Monday and Tuesday

Clarence, N.Y. (WBEN) - An increased police presence was present outside Clarence High School on Monday after threatening graffiti was spotted on a trail near the school.

In a post on a Clarence Community Group Facebook page, part of the graffiti sprayed on the trail read, "I will shoot up Clarence H.S.! 9/17. 10 AM."

Erie County Sheriff's Office Lt. Jeremy Lehning says the graffiti itself is hate and race-based.

"Contained in the graffiti is a threat to the Clarence High School itself, which our Behavioral Threat Assessment Task Force is looking into right now," shared Lehning with WBEN on Monday.

Deputies say there is no credibility to the threat.

The enhanced police presence will also be in place on Tuesday around the school.

Clarence Schools Superintendent Dr. Matthew Frahm released the following statement on the district's Facebook page Monday afternoon:
