Buffalo, NY (WBEN) - The border between the United States and Canada will continue to be closed to "non-essential" travel for another month.
The US Department of Homeland Security made the announcement Thursday that restrictions at both Canadian and Mexican land borders will remain in place until at least April 21.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has not put a timeframe on when he believes the border should reopen. Under current restrictions, tourists and cross-border visits remain prohibited. Trade and commerce are exempted, as are certain family members, providing a 14-day quarantine is strictly followed. The border has been closed to recreational travel since March 21, 2020.
