Poloncarz sails to fourth-consecutive victory over newcomer Casilio in race for County Executive

"The best is yet to come..."

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The power of incumbency and the overwhelming plurality of Democrats to Republicans in Erie County was too much for political newcomer Chrissy Casilio to overcome, as Democrat Mark Poloncarz sailed to victory and a fourth-consecutive term as Erie County Executive.

The polarizing race featured seemingly endless negative campaign advertising from both candidates and focused mainly on issues surrounding the migrant crisis, blizzard and a personal matter that shadowed Poloncarz.

Poloncarz led the race throughout as the votes were tallied, leading nearly 60% to 40% nearing the end of the tabulations.

Poloncarz declared victory on his birthday, shortly after Casilio conceded defeat in a phone call to him just before 11 p.m.

"The best is yet to come," said Poloncarz in a brief speech to supporters.
