Remnants of Debby soaking Buffalo-Niagara region while drenching areas to the east

"We're going to have a soaking, heavy rainfall move through the area today"

Buffalo, N.Y. (WBEN) - The remnants of Tropical Depression Debby soaking the Western New York region as the storm passes to the east of our region during the day Friday.

A Flood Watch is posted for most of Western New York Friday, with the exception of Chautauqua County.

"We're going to have a soaking, heavy rainfall move through the area today," National Weather Service meteorologist Kirk Apfel tells WBEN. "We're looking for most areas to get an inch and a half of rain, with localized amounts up to two and a half inches." Apfel says the bulk of the rain will fall from mid-morning through Friday afternoon.

Areas from the Finger Lakes eastward are in line for much heavier rainfall amounts and increased flooding potential, forecasters warn. "They're looking for rainfall amounts on the order of four inches," Apfel says.

It will be a 'quick hit' Friday and the rainfall will exit, making way for drier conditions Saturday, Apfel notes. "It's going to get cooler for the weekend."

High temperatures through the weekend should settle in the lower 70's with breezy conditions.

Looking ahead to next week, it will be cooler to start the week before more summer-like conditions return.

"By Tuesday and Wednesday, we're back up into the upper 70's to around 80."
