The South Jersey collision occurred in Pittsgrove Township around 6:15 a.m. when a 16-year-old driving a Kia Optima with a 15-year-old passenger on McKishen Road went through a stop sign at an intersection, according to New Jersey State Police.

The teen’s car went across Route 553, then off the road. It became airborne and hit a tree, authorities said. The 15-year-old died in the crash while the driver was taken to the hospital for injuries. His condition is unclear.

A student at Arthur P. Schalick High School in Pittsgrove, the 15-year-old’s school community sent their condolences.

We extend our condolences, thoughts, prayers, and support to the family.”

Officials have yet to confirm if the driver is also a student at Schalick High School.
