NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Two Yonkers teens were sentenced Wednesday in the shooting of a six-year-old who got caught in their gunfire on a Yonkers sidewalk.

The shooting occurred last April just after 6 p.m. when both teens fired multiple shots at two people hitting a six-year-old bystander in the chest, authorities said.
The young victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx and suffered a punctured left lung, two rib fractures and small splenic laceration. He received life-saving surgery at the hospital.
Both of the gunmen were arrested shortly after the incident.
“An innocent young child was left in critical condition after being shot by these two defendants who opened fire on a city street,” District Attorney Miriam E. Rocah said. “There is no place for gun violence in Westchester County and we will continue to hold those who commit acts of violence such as this accountable to the fullest extent possible under the law. We are grateful the victim survived and we hope these sentences bring an additional measure of healing to the victim and his family.”
Both of the teens—ages 18 and 16—pled guilty to first degree assault, a violent felony. The 18-year-old received a sentence of 10 years in state prison, with five years of post-release supervision while the 16-year-old was sentenced to 3 to 9 years in state prison.
