NEWARK, N.J. (WCBS 880) — A Hawaii man is reportedly facing a fine after security agents found an antique gun during a security screening Saturday at Newark Liberty International Airport.

NJ.com reports a Transportation Security Administration officer held the passenger inside a Terminal A screening checkpoint after an X-ray machine found the weapon in the man’s carry-on bag.

TSA Spokesperson Lisa Farbstein joked on Twitter Monday that "it looked like the wild, wild west for a bit."

The man reportedly told officials the gun belonged to his father and he forgot it inside his carry-on bag. Guns can be transported on planes only if they are in a checked bag and are declared.

Police allowed the traveler to leave the airport and secure his gun.

Saturday's incident is the 11th one where a gun was taken at a Newark Liberty checkpoint this year.
