GILGO BEACH, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — One of the unidentified victims of the Gilgo Beach serial killer may have a connection to a man in Alabama.

Authorities used genetic genealogy DNA to identify one of the killer's at least 10 victims in 2020.

Now that technique could be used for Jane Doe #3, known as "Peaches" because of her tattoo, and her toddler daughter, who are both unidentified.

The child's remains were found near the body of a woman believed to have been a victim of the serial killer.

A Facebook post by Mobile, Alabama, police asks if anyone knows Elijah Howell Howard, who died in 1963 in Prichard, Alabama.

"The FBI is seeking relatives and friends of Elijah 'Lige' Howell/Howard (1927-1963). Mr. Howard lived in Prichard, AL with his wife Carrie and passed away in Mobile, AL in 1963 with Ms. Lillie Mae Wiggins Packer. His relatives may be able to assist in the case of a woman and child found in another state," their post said, urging anyone with information to contact the FBI.

On 1010 WINS' Newsline with Brigitte Quinn, former Suffolk Police Commissioner Gerladine Hart, who was in charge of Long Island's FBI field office when the Gilgo bodies were found, said that this stage of the investigation could produce "new leads" and aid in identifying "a previously unknown victim of a homicide."

Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison appeared to agree, saying in a statement that "investigators are following a lead to potentially identify a victim."

It wasn’t immediately clear what information Howard's family may have for investigators in the Gilgo case.
