ELMONT, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 70-year-old Long Island driver was arrested Monday night after sideswiping a police car, injuring the officer inside and attempting to flee the scene, authorities said.

According to police, John Sferlazza was driving a 2004 Honda in Elmont when he sideswiped the driver's side of a patrol car, which damaged the car and injured the cop inside.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said.

Sferlazza is charged with second-degree assault and leaving the scene of an incident with injury.
