EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A former nurse at a Long Island nursing home was indicted on Tuesday for sexual abuse and other charges after he allegedly grabbed the breast of a resident without consent, according to court records.
The former director of nursing at the Fulton Commons Care Center in East Meadow was also indicted Tuesday for falsifying records in an attempt to cover-up her underling’s misconduct.
Daniel Persaud groped a patient while she sat in a wheelchair between Oct. 1, 2020 and Nov. 26, 2020, according to prosecutors.
Carol Frawley not only failed to report the assault, which she was required to do by law, but she also falsified documents to cover up the abuse, officials alleged.
Grand Healthcare System, the parent company of Fulton Commons, obtained the facility within the last 60 days, but a representative said the previous owners fired Frawley and Persaud once the allegations came to light.
“The charges against Daniel Persaud and Carol Frawley are disturbing and appalling, and that those tasked with the care of our most vulnerable could cause such harm violates the trust New Yorkers are expected to have in nursing homes,” said Attorney General Letitia James. “Fulton Commons, Frawley, and Persaud allegedly committed horrific abuses against a resident and knowingly hid those actions. These heinous crimes will not go unchecked — and my office will ensure these individuals are held accountable.”
Persaud was indicted on charges of sexual abuse, endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person, violating public health laws and forcible touching.
Frawley faces charges of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, falsifying business records and violating public health laws.
The defendants’ next court date is scheduled for Dec. 21.
